About University
The Northern State Medical University (NSMU) in Arkhangelsk was founded in 1932 and reorganized in 2000. It is the university center for most of NW Russia; Arkhangelsk oblast, Volgoda oblast, Murmansk oblast, Nenets okrug, Komi republic and Karelia republic. We have the agreement with 6 governors of North – West Russia.
Nowadays about 5500 (8000 with PG) students study at the faculties. University buildings and clinics are provided with up-to-date equipment: computers, films and video aids, and other modern appliances. There are 55 departments, 27 of them are clinical based in the best clinics of the city.
NSMU have the educational and scientific contacts and student exchanges with universities of Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden, Finland), Central and Eastern Europe (Germany and Poland). From 1992 in the NSMU, foreign citizens are educated. First foreign students were citizens of India, Syria and Pakistan. Now, about 100 students from 17 foreign countries study in the NSMU. Before entering the University, these students complete the course of Russian and special subjects at the Preparatory Department. From 1992 till 2005, more than 250 persons graduated from the Preparatory Department. 95% of its graduates have entered the NSMU. English Medium is also available.
During clinical studies, foreign citizens that have graduated from the NSMU and from other higher educational institutions of Russia receive certificates of specialists in different fields of medicine.
The University is recognized by WHO (World Health Organization), ECFMG (USA), Medical Council of India (as per MCI Rules). NSMU is member of AMSE (Association of Medical Schools of Europe). After passing degree from NSMU students are eligible for USMLE (USA) or PLUB (UK) Exams.
All our graduates apply their knowledge and skills acquired at the University in the field of healthcare. All the NSMU graduates pass different certification exams when applying for jobs at clinical establishments of any country of the world - from Europe to Australia. Now more than 100 graduates are working abroad, 15 have defended the PhD in foreign universities and scientific centers (Norway, Sweden, Poland, Germany and Finland).We are proud of our former medical students working in many clinics all around the world. At present our scientists including the young ones collaborate with leading experts from the European Universities and clinics as equals, take part in the international scientific projects, and they are among the experts of the World Health Organization.

The Northern Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences has been organized on the basis of the University. This head organization unites the capacity of medical science and co-ordinates medico-ecological research of Arkhangelsk and Murmansk regions, Nenets Area and Komi Republic.
Postgraduate Education
On the basis of the University in 1995 there was organized the Faculty of Postgraduate Education for medical specialists to acquire a higher qualification. Education for medical specialists to acquire a higher qualification. The process of further training is organized in accordance with the programs including one-year primary specialization - clinical internship and a two-year professional training for further practice in hospital that is a key point when training highly experienced medical staff. There are several courses at the Faculty for doctors to improve their qualification. The main tasks of these courses are to satisfy the needs of specialists in receiving the knowledge about the latest achievements in the corresponding branch of science and leading foreign experience, and in improving their professional skills.

Additional Information
Foreign students study in the Northern State Medical University at the International faculty of General Practitioners and also at the Pediatric faculty, the faculty of Dentistry and in the Institute of Informatics technologies. You get ready to enter the university at the Preparatory department, where you study the Russian language. Nowadays students from India, Pakistan, Cameroon, Syria, Turkey, Angola, Zambia, Nigeria, Peru, Byelorussia, Ukraine, Georgia and Armenia study in the university.
For admission you should send us a letter by e-mail: contact@canbedoctor.com or by fax: + 07514010133, mentioning your full name, date of birth, country, e-mail and fax. After that you’ll get an application form to fill in and send back to us. You should submit the certificate of your secondary / higher education, the photocopy of your passport and give us the information about your sponsor because the education is paid. It costs $1200 at the Preparatory department (studying Russian and other special subjects). Further education costs $1950 per year. English medium costs USD 2500. The studying period on the International faculty of General Practitioners is 5 years and 8 months.
If you come up to all the demands, you will get the invoice for payment at the Preparatory department. When the money comes to the university’s account the invitation will be sent by DHL onto your postal address. On receiving the written invitation you should arrive to the university till the 1st of September, the beginning of the studying year. You should inform us about the exact date of your arrival. A university’s representative meets you in Moscow and take to Arkhangelsk. During the first 3 days at the university you sign the contracts on paid education and for accommodation in the dormitory.
You should submit Medical certificate confirming no AIDS, Medical certificate confirming no contradictions in terms of studying in Russian Federation, 11 photos 4x6 sm.
Studies begin on the 1st of September. In the hostel you’ll have a room with all modern conveniences for 2-3 persons. Every floor has its own kitchen where you can cook yourself. Living in the hostel costs $17 per month. The university has its own canteen. It will take you approximately $800 per year to buy food in the shops. Except this you should mind the changing weather of the North-West of Russia. Therefore you have to mind the expenditures for buying warm clothes.
Every student has an opportunity to open his own account in the bank where parents may transfer money. In the building of the university there is a bank department, which insures the safety of your money and saves your time. This bank also transfers money by service of Western Union.
The NSMU guarantees to give necessary literature, but all the stationery you buy by yourself.
Free time you can spend in students’ clubs, theatres, cinemas, museums, concert halls, sports clubs and discos. Also there is an opportunity to take part in cultural performances and scientific work on the chosen theme.

Eligibility Criteria for student :-
Eligibility certificate from MCI (Medical Council of India) for Indian Students is required. In order to get eligibility certificate from MCI it is necessary to apply in the prescribed format attached with this brochure or it can be downloaded from the website of MCI www.mciindia.org students obtaining 50% marks in (PCBE) i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Biology, & English (40% marks in case of students belonging to reserved category) in 12th science standard and over 17 years of age are eligible for medical studies as per the norms of MCI.
